About Frances Mercer

As a dedicated psychologist and experienced teacher, crisis telephone, and drug/alcohol counsellor, school chaplain, school psychologist and yoga teacher/therapist specialising in trauma resiliency yoga and hypnotherapy, Frances has taught and counselled individuals/couples, and facilitated small to large groups through the entire life span and cultural, professional connections.

Frances combines psychologically focussed therapies with body-mindfulness connection strategies including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) including Changing Tracks, Zones of Regulation and Trauma Focused CBT (TF-CBT)

  • Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Narrative Therapy (NT), and Solution Focused (Brief) Therapy (SFBT)

  • Eye Movement & Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping

  • Clinical Hypnotherapy & Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

  • Yoga therapy including mindfulness, relaxation, meditation and breathing techniques

Frances creates a safe, approachable, and respectful place for clients to re-discover their own resources, to support their personalised positive needs, goals and well-being with issues such as:

  • Stress, anxiety, overwhelm &/or depression

  • Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD), including childhood trauma

  • Phobias, panic symptoms & addiction issues including sleep, weight and smoking issues

  • Social issues including resilience, emotion regulation, self-esteem & confidence building

  • Self-care, personal growth, goal setting for students, parents & professionals

  • Grief and loss coping strategies for transitional and life adjustment situations

  • Pain related issues including gut-related pain

  • Work related, school/study/learning, parenting and interpersonal issues

Frances is an Australian Psychology Society committee member (APS Perth Branch) and as a previous chair of the APS Student Interest Group (APS SIG) supports University psychology students ‘Bridge the Gap’ between student and their psychological professional pathway events.  She also volunteers her services with Dru Yoga Australia assisting new trainees into the yoga profession.
